GameStop is better known as one of the largest and international retail chains for video games. In 2009 they expanded their business into the digital realm by extending the GameStop webpage with a subsection for download games. While initially off to a good start this part of their business largely remained a subsection with a relatively small and not very up-to-date portfolio. Since mid 2010 it seems to pick up some speed with more feature titles and stronger deals. The shopping experience is decent and powered by Trymedia. Don't expect any extras, though. We are hoping for more!

After a series of mergers and acquisitions, GameStop (which also operates under the names Babbage’s, EB Games, and FuncoLand) has become the world’s largest videogame distributor. In addition to new games and systems, GameStop also offers used games, accessories, strategy guides, and virtually anything else associated in any way with videogames. It has also expanded its presence on the web with an online store that operates through its website, which provides a large library of games to choose from and a variety of methods for acquiring those games.GameStop strives to give its website the same look and feel of its retail stores. The same simple yet fun color schemes are used, and different sections display games for different consoles. Many icons are placed throughout the site that feature each title’s cover picture, and if the user clicks on these icons, a description page loads. Since visitors cannot actually hold the packaging, this page features similar information found on the back of a videogame’s case, including screenshots, a description, and any requirements. One of the unique aspects of the online store is the ability to purchase and download games from GameStop directly from a computer. Many of the titles sold by GameStop allow users to buy online and then download games instantly, including several games that have long left store shelves. Special offers are also typically available for digital downloads offered by GameStop, allowing users compare prices for download games against those available in store. Despite the strong reputation that GameStop has built among gamers, many issues have been reported when attempted to download games from GameStop.com. Some report that after extremely slow download times, missing and corrupted files still prevent the game from installing properly. Others report an interrupted download with a message informing them of a connection issue even if there are no problems with the user’s Internet connection.
