Launched in April 2006, Gamers Gate started out as the download platform of Swedish publisher Paradox, which is known for its strong focus on PC hardcore strategy games. It now has developed into an independent spinoff providing a large selection of independent and most major publishers to an international audience. At its start in 2006, GamersGate was developed as a digital distribution system by Paradox Interactive to provide digital downloads in locations where retail distribution was not possible. It allows players to purchase and download games without the use of a client installed on the user’s computer. GamersGate currently carries over 2,200 digital downloads from more than 250 developers.GamersGate allows users to buy online titles and download them without requiring users to install a software client on their computer. The homepage contains many options to help gamers sift through the titles they offer. Across the top, a menu bar features several genres that gamers may choose from. The central portion of the homepage features some of the more popular and promoted titles, while the right side shows various discounts. After you have narrowed your search, several titles will be listed as thumbnails with the star rating and price listed below. There are usually too many games to fit on a single page, so you may have to use the arrows at the top or bottom of the list to scroll through the various pages. Other than pre-orders and new titles being listed first, there is no real organizational method for the listings, although you have the option of searching for specific titles by name at the top of the page.Once you have found a title that gains your interest, click on its thumbnail to view the product description page. This page features the cover art, brief description, user rating, system requirements, price, reviews, and, of course, the option to purchase the game either as a gift or for yourself.
