In “Batman: Arkham Asylum”, Joker is captured and brought to Gotham city’s Arkham Asylum. However, in spite of the police and Batman’s best efforts, the Joker breaks free. All the inmates are freed, and the security personnel are quickly overrun. As the asylum falls into chaos, Batman tries to restore order and stop the joker. At the game’s climax, Joker injects into himself the same super-serum that gave Bane his strength. He grows into a hideous mutant, but Batman is able to defeat him using his superior skills and strength. In Batman: Arkham City, the warden of Arkham Asylum, Quincy Sharp has now become the Mayor of Gotham (by portraying himself as the hero of Arkham). He plans to construct a new city, known as “Arkham City” in the heart of Gotham to hold criminals. The inmates are not bound in cells. Instead, they can roam freely, and armed personnel guard the perimeter of the city. In spite of all precautions, Batman is worried that hell might break loose in Arkham, and guards it himself. When Two-Face comes into the picture and decides to gain control of Arkham City, it is up to Batman to stop him.
Like its predecessor, the game heavily relies in Batman’s stealth and fighting prowess to defeat enemies. Head-on contact with armed enemies is avoided, and Batman is able to take down his foes from the dark, like a predator in the night. Many of Batman’s gadgets, such as the batarang (normal, sonic and remote controlled), the bat-claw and the explosive gel are available, and new weapons are introduced. Batman is able to unlock upgrades for his armour and gadgets as the player progresses through the game. Also, Batman’s “Detective Mode”, which allows him to track enemies and solve puzzles, will also see an improvement.
