After the success of “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare”, Infinity ward has once again come up with a stunner. “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” was released in November 2009 for multiple platforms. It is one of the largest selling video games, with over 20 million copies sold worldwide as in June 2010. It was also a leader on the Digital Download charts upon its release.

The events in the story take place a few years after Modern Warfare. For most part of the game, players either control Sgt. Gary “Roach” Sanderson- a member of the elite anti-terrorist group “Task Force 141”, or Pvt. James Ramirez - a member of the US Army Rangers. John “Soap” MacTavish – the protagonist of the previous game, is also a playable character in the final missions. A CIA intelligence mission goes horribly wrong after the United States is accused wrongly of the massacre of thousands of civilians at the Zakhaev International Airport, and the Russians declare an all out war on the US. With nuclear warfare imminent, the members of the 141 are dispatched to bring the culprit to light, while the Rangers defend their home front from Russian infantry. What they do not know is that the man responsible is among them, planning his next move.

Modern Warfare 2 is a first person shooter. Like other Call of Duty games, the player can stand, crouch, crawl, and sprint for limited periods of time. The game has a huge arsenal of weapons, such as the M4A1 assault rifle, AK-47, Dragunov sniper rifle, Desert Eagle, MP5 and many others. Weapons can also have attachments, such as grenade launchers, shotguns, thermal sights and sniper scopes. The game also has a “Special OPS” mode, where the player must complete certain independent missions from the single player campaign.

Modern Warfare 2 has received hugely positive reviews from gamers, and has received many awards such as the “Best First Person Shooter of 2009”, and has been declared the “Best Game of 2009” by many popular gaming sites.
