Dragon Age 2 may be aptly called the most awaited RPG of 2011. After the phenomenal international success of Bioware’s Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon age 2 is set to be released in March 2011.
Towards the ending of Dragon Age: Origins, it is revealed that the Grey Warden who kills the Archdemon (the leader of the Darkspawn horde) must sacrifice his own life as well. However, the witch Morrigan is able to save the player’s life by conducting an ancient ritual and bearing the Warden’s offspring. She goes missing after the Archdemon is defeated, leaving the child’s fate unclear. In Dragon Age 2, players assume the role of Hawke, a survivor of the darkspawn horde’s assault. The game follows his rise to power, from meagre beginnings to the champion of men, over a span of 10 years. It is not clear yet, but many gamers are speculating that Hawke is actually Morrigan’s son. Also, many characters from Origins make a comeback in Dragon Age 2, such as Flemeth (the dreaded witch of the Wilds, and Morrigan’s mother)
Dragon Age 2 has added many different gameplay elements. For example, players can now customise only the class of their character (Warrior, Mage or Rogue), the race being fixed as human (in Origins, players were able to choose their race as well as their gender). The gameplay is faster, the player’s movements are quicker, and the gore and violence content seems to be higher. All those who enjoyed Origins will certainly not want to miss this one.

In Dragon age: Origins, the player (whatever may be his gender, race or class) joins the ranks of the Grey Wardens – a group of elite warriors who are sworn to protect the land against the Darkspawn ( a race of hellish creatures who replicate by infecting life forms). To end the scourge, the Wardens have to slay the Archdemon – the head of the Darkspawn. However, the Warden who kills the Archdemon must sacrifice his own life as well.
The witch Morrigan is able to save the Warden from certain death by bearing his offspring. After the battle is over, Morrigan disappears into the wilds, leaving the child’s future shrouded in mystery. “Dragon Age 2” follows the story of Hawke – a survivor of the Darkspawn assault. The game traces his rise to power, from meagre beginning in a village to becoming the champion of men over a span of ten years. Many characters from DA: Origins, such as Flemeth (the witch of the wilds and Morrigan’s mother) appear in Dragon age 2. Gamers are also speculating that Dragon Age 2 will throw some light over Morrigan’s son.
Dragon age 2 remains an RPG, where players have to complete quests to earn experience. The choices made by the player in completing these quests affect the game’s story. The player can take upto 3 “companions” with him, who assist him in combat and can be talked to. Also, the player can either control the companions himself, or use preset tactics to define their role in combat. However, the game has made some significant improvements over its predecessor. The graphics have been improved, and the combat system has been revamped, making it much faster and thrilling. The player can no longer choose his race (Hawke being human), but the class of the can be selected from Warrior, Rogue or Mage.
Summing it up, Dragon Age 2 is one game RPG lovers would love to play.
