In “Dead Space”, in the year 2508, a mining ship named Ishimura located on the planet Aegis VII sends out a distress signal. The protagonist, Isaac Clarke, is one of the crew members of the USG Kellion that responds to the signal. The Kellion, however, crashes on the surface and the crew is killed. Clarke survives with a few fellow scientists, and they find that the Ishimura was secretly mining an artefact called the Marker, and upon its excavation the crew of the Ishimura was stuck with fits of madness. They then encounter “Necromorphs”, who are animated corpses of the dead crew. After Clarke’s fellow scientists are killed by the Necromorphs, he puts the Marker back in its place and boards an emergency escape shuttle. On his way back, he is attacked by a necromorph that resembles his dead girlfriend and is struck unconscious.
In “Dead Space 2”, set three years after the first part, Clarke wakes up and finds himself in a hospital somewhere on one of the moons of Saturn. With no memory of his past, Clarke joins forces with another patient named Nolan Stross, who believes that Clarke is the only one who can destroy the Marker. Together, they must try to break into the government stronghold where the Marker is kept and attempt to destroy it; otherwise its infestation will convert all of humanity into Necromorphs.
“Dead Space 2” combines the survival horror and shooter genre, making the gameplay very engrossing and entertaining. The player controls Clarke throughout the game, and faces of against different kinds of Necromorphs. Clarke also carries a Stasis Module (which allows him to slow down moving objects) and a Kinesis module (which allows him to manipulate mechanical and electrical machinery). Weapons, armour, equipment and ammunition are found throughout the game, and can be upgraded as the player progresses.
