Crysis 2 is the sequel to Electronic Arts’ “Crysis” and “Crysis” warhead. It will be released for multiple platforms in March 2011. Most gamers remember Crysis as one of the most graphically demanding games of all time. Well, all of you can breathe a sigh of relief, as the developer, Crytek, has claimed that even though the graphics of Crysis 2 are going to be better (honestly, how can you improve perfection?), the system requirements are still going to be low .
In “Crysis”, players assumed the role of Nomad, a member of the US Special forces, whose assignment was to rescue a group of scientists who had been taken hostage by Korean forces on a forest covered island. The squad is equipped with a million dollar Nanosuit, which enhances the soldier’s physical capabilities. However, the experiments on the island go wrong, and an ancient alien civilisation that had been lying dormant for centuries is awakened. Two soldiers in Nomad’s squad are killed, and their leader Prophet is abducted by the aliens. Crysis 2 takes place in the year 2023, in the concrete jungles of New York (which is now devastated due to the alien invasion). The player assumes the role of “Alcatraz”, a marine who is in possession of Nanosuit 2 (which was designed by Prophet in captivity). Alcatraz must now fight both Crynet systems (who want possession of the Nanosuit) and the Alien horde to survive.
Crysis 2 uses the new CryEngine 3, and the graphics of the game are going to set a new benchmark for future games. Certain gameplay elements, such as suit functions, have undergone a major change. While switching suit modes, the player will have a brief period of time when he will be able to use both modes simultaneously. The cloak mode has also undergone a change, and stealth kills and slipping past enemies undetected is going to be major part of the gameplay. The aliens have been changed completely. In Crysis, the aliens were hovering octopus like creatures covered with an exoskeleton. The aliens in Crysis 2 are half biological, half cybernetic monsters with weapons for arms.
