Civilization V is a turn-based real time strategy game and the fifth instalment in the famous “Civilisation” series. It was released for PC in 2010 (via both retail and Digital Download), and is one of the most acclaimed strategy titles till date.

Civilization V places in the player’s hands the control of an entire nation. Each nation – May it be Japanese, Iroquois or Indian, has its own unique powers, and is led by a great leader from history (Washington for America, MK Gandhi for India, Alexander for Greece and Napoleon for France). The game starts with each nation having its own small settlement. With the course of time, nations gradually increase in power using either brain or brawn (or a mix of both). Computer controlled nations try to impede your progress in their own ways, as the leader of each nation has his or her own preferences regarding world dominion.

Players play in turns on hexagon shaped tiles. For defeating enemy nations, a player may launch an all-out attack against them, ally with another nation and crush them, use diplomacy and government to hamper their progress, or research technology and research to push them on the backseat. Certain “Wonders” (as seen in the “Age of Empires and Mythology” series) can also ensure your victory. Warfare is also very realistic, with the fate of battles being decided not by the number of soldiers, but by tactics. Players can also gather “Culture” as a resource, which can aid them in achieving a cultural victory by imposing their culture and religion upon weaker nations.

Civilization 5 has received very good reviews from critics, drawing applaud for both its addicting gameplay and its graphics (which are good even for a strategy game). The developers have released several game fixes for download, and fans are keeping their fingers crossed for the next title!!

Almost the best Civ game ever
Posted on Jan 1, 2010 by Sebastian Lindig
It certainly the best looking Civilization ever. Everything, the graphics, the user interface and game logic has been streamlined a lot. Not having to micromanage "millions" of single units and stacks was a great relieve for me. The game has definitely become more accessible for newbies as well. I still spend some hours every now and than with some of the DLCs. Still, I greatly miss the Cultural domination feature. In Civ 4 you could overtake a civilization by just building your cultural dominance. I just loved to see the enemies cities succumb to my superiority. Well, maybe that's just me...
