“Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty” is the sequel to Blizzard entertainment’s international bestseller “Starcraft” which was released in 1998. It was released on 27th July 2010 for the PC.

The game is set in the 26th century, focusing on the galactic battle between 3 races: The Zerg (a virus infested species), The Protoss (a race with strong mental powers) and The Terrans (human exiles). The campaign follows the Terran point of view. After their victory in the “Brood War”, the Zerg have surprisingly vanished. As a result, the Human Empire “Dominion” has once again become the dominant power. The game’s main protagonist, Jim Raynor, leads a revolution against the empire. An ancient artefact, whose pieces are scattered throughout the galaxy, may be the key to the final victory of the rebellion...

The game focuses on a player’s strategy, tactics and management. Like many Real time strategy games, to progress the player must build a base, harvest resources, expand military and improve technology. The game has many variations from the original Starcraft, and many changes can be seen – both in the gameplay and the environment. Most of the units are similar to that of the original game; they have just been equipped with new technologies.

“Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty” has received extremely positive reviews and high ratings from critics and players alike. The game sold more than a million copies on day 1 itself. Blizzard also sold the game as a digital download from its own website, selling around half a million copies.

Blizzard has announced 2 expansions for the game: Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void, which will follow the campaign from the point of view of the other species in the galaxy.
