Arcania: Gothic 4 is the fourth title in the Gothic series. Its PC version was released in October 2010.

The story is set in the mystical realm of Myrtana. The land is engulfed by war and conflict, the King is losing his grip over the kingdom, and the land is under threat of invasion by demonic forces. It is in this land plagued by peril the player is thrust. Now, our nameless hero must accept the task of eradicating evil and bringing peace to the land once more.

Like many RPGs, the most essential components of the game are completing quests and mission to gain experience. After the player has accumulated sufficient experience, he or she may level up, increasing their attributes and learning new skills. Various skills, such as alchemy and lock picking may be acquired in the game. As the player’s level increases, he gains access to more powerful spells and skills. Combat uses a combination of movement keys and mouse buttons; rolling, dodging and evading being important. For those who have played Larian Studios’ “Divinity 2”, the gameplay will seem pretty similar.

The game uses the Vision Engine 7(based on Nvidia PhysX) to deliver a smooth graphical performance. And even though combat is satisfying, Arcania Gothic 4 misses out on the storytelling element. Players do not have many options to resolve quests. But still, this is one game worth playing for an RPG enthusiast.

Arcania: Gothic 4 is available for Digital Download at many download shops. The publishers have announced that Arcania: Gothic 4 will receive several add-ons and patches for download in 2011. A sequel to this game is also underway.
