Want to decide the outcome of the battle between Heaven and Hell? Go ahead and play Darksiders! Based on the idea of Apocalypse (“The lifting of the veil), Darksiders was released for the PC in September 2010 by THQ games. The game’s official website www.darksiders.com, offers the game for digital download; forums, support and game media downloads are also available.
The Book of Revelation describes four horsemen – Conquest, War, Famine and Death, who are unleashed after Christ opens the first four seals that bind an ancient scroll. In Darksiders, players assume the role of War – The Second Horseman of the Apocalypse. The battle between Heaven and Hell has been raging on for centuries, with nether side gaining the upper hand.
As the final battle on earth begins, the Charred Council sends War to intervene and force a truce between the two factions, otherwise the entire planet is threatened to be destroyed by the warfare. However, when a demon slays the general of Heaven’s army, the enraged warriors of Heaven decide to continue the battle. With the Apocalypse being imminent, the Charred Council gives War a last chance to make amends. Now War is the only one who can stop this battle and prevent the day of doom.
Darksiders is a third person action game. The player can wield different weapons and use different skills which are unlocked as the game progresses. Different combinations of buttons result in combos, which vary in the amount of damage done to the enemy. Players can also block and dodge the enemy’s attacks. When killed, enemies drop three kinds of orbs: Yellow (they fill the “Wrath Meter” which allows the player to use magic attacks), Blue (can be used to purchase combos and skills) and Green (replenish health). In addition, several artefacts can be found hidden in the game, which augment Wrath’s abilities and skills.
Darksiders has received very positive reviews from critics, winning the “Best Fantasy Game of 2010” at IGN. A sequel to this game is planned for release in 2013.
