Mass Effect 2 is the sequel to Bioware’s RPG title “Mass Effect”. It was released for the PC in January 2011. It is one of the most selling RPG games of all time, selling more than two million copies within the first week of its release itself! The game is available via Digital Download, where users just have to buy “Mass Effect 2” and download it directly to their hard drive.
In Mass Effect 1, the game’s protagonist Commander Shepard stops the traitor Saren from resurrecting the Reapers – an ancient and mighty civilisation who had destroyed all life in the galaxy 50,000 years ago. Now a war hero, Shepard is travelling in his spaceship when he is attacked by an alien species known as the Collectors. His entire crew survives, but Shepard is blasted into space, and is taken to be dead by all his crew members. However, an organisation known as Cerebrus resurrects Shepard after operating upon him for almost two years. A mysterious person known as the Illusive Man talks to him, and tells him that the Galaxy is once again in danger, and his bravery and skills are the only things that can save the universe from destruction. Shepard must now travel all over the galaxy to find allies, who will aid him in stopping the threat of the Collectors.
Mass Effect 2 combines elements of a third person shooter and a role playing game. The player can choose from a variety of classes. Soldier, Biotic and Engineer are base classes, whereas there are three more classes which combine key features of any two classes. Soldiers are bred for combat, and can use any kind of weapon or armour. Biotics use cybernetic implants to create force fields which can be used for both offensive and defensive purposes. Engineers use their skills to hack enemy robots, gadgets and weaponry. Experience is awarded to the player upon completing a quest or killing an enemy, and after accumulating enough points the player can level up (adding points to skills depending upon their class). Many characters from Mass Effect 1 make a comeback in this sequel, and many new squad members are also added. Talking to squad members and helping them out solve their personal problems increases their approval of you and enhances their abilities in combat.
In short: Mass Effect 2 is a definite must have for every gaming enthusiast.
